News & Updates
After nearly ten years, Oregon Guitar Quartet has said good-bye to founding member David Franzen. David helped establish the quartet in 2006 and worked to bring the group to its present stature. We are sad to see him go, but proud of what he has helped us accomplish. We wish him well. Filling David’s shoes is no easy task, but we are happy to announce the addition of Portland guitarist and recent San Francisco Conservatory graduate, Mario Diaz. Mario has a long-standing relationship with the members of the quartet and has been performing in the Pacific Northwest for over fifteen years. In recent years, he completed his master’s degree under the legendary Sergio Assad. Mario is a superb inclusion and we are very excited to work with him. You can catch OGQ’s first performance with Mario this Sunday at Vie de Boheme (details below).
Cube Squared Records celebrates the release of Oregon Guitar Quartet member John Mery’s solo album, Argentina. This recording features solos that represent an exciting slice of Argentine guitar culture including tangos, romantic character pieces, and folkloric dances.
To celebrate this release, a special reception will be held Sunday, May 24 at Vie de Boheme from 7 - 9PM. Selections from the album will be performed by John Mery and an additional set will be played by the Oregon Guitar Quartet. The album will be available for purchase at www.cubesquaredrecords.com and digitally through various retailers including iTunes and amazonmp3.com.
Last but not least, the Oregon Guitar Quartet will be announcing it’s 2015-2016 concert season very shortly. We are looking forward to bringing you yet another adventurous series.
